About Behavioral Health Billing

Behavioral Health Billing was founded by Jolien Connor, who began working in mental health billing as a teenager in New York State. What started as early hands-on experience grew into a career devoted to helping mental health providers navigate the complexities of insurance reimbursement.

In 2010, Jolien transitioned her billing work into a fully online business, allowing her to serve clinicians across multiple states and expand her expertise in regional requirements, payer systems, and customized practice workflows. Today, she is continuing that expansion—broadening Behavioral Health Billing into new services that support both billers and providers in the mental health field. By strengthening both sides of the billing process, BHB ultimately helps ensure that patients receive consistent, sustainable access to care.

Our clients choose Behavioral Health Billing because we offer more than just administrative support — we deliver accuracy, accountability, and peace of mind. By combining expert knowledge with a personalized approach, we reduce the day-to-day stress that comes with managing insurance claims. The result is a smoother billing process, faster reimbursements, and more time for you to focus on what truly matters — providing exceptional care to your clients.

Behavioral Health Billing for Providers

Behavioral Health Billing offers mental health practices a partnership built on decades of experience, deep knowledge of insurance rules, and a commitment to accuracy, transparency, and reliability. Providers benefit from:

We meet each provider where they are. Some prefer to stay deeply involved in every detail; others trust us to manage their billing quietly and efficiently behind the scenes.

Wherever you fall on that spectrum, we build a workflow that feels effortless, reliable, and tailored to your practice — so you can grow with confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.

Testimonials

Jolien and her team have been a consistent, reliable support for our small group practice. They are responsive, detail-oriented, and they go above and beyond to respond to our practice's billing needs, often catching and correcting things before they are even on my radar. Their behind the scenes support allows us to focus on what we do best--providing high quality therapy to our clients. I am so grateful for them!

Jolien and her team have been an incredible support to our agency. They handle problematic claims, verify client coverage, and assist with credentialing with efficiency and care. Aside from their expertise, one of the big things we value most is the flexibility they offer: they provide more support when we need it and less when we don’t, without tying us into services we won’t use or straining our budget. Communication is clear, timely, and genuinely collaborative. We highly recommend Behavioral Health Billing.

FAQs

Do you only work with behavioral health providers and billers?

Yes — our services are designed specifically for addressing mental health billing issues that providers and billers face.

Dr Jolien Connor, founder and owner of Behavioral Health Billing, has 35 years of experience in mental health billing.  The BHB team as a whole has over 65 years cumulative experience.

  • While mental health billing services are abundant, two areas that stand out as lacking support and resources are providers getting short term on demand billing support and billers having good local networks to connect with.
  • Several individual struggling providers who don’t want full service billing inspired the creation of Ask A Biller.
  • Mental Health Connect was inspired by a local Madison, Wisconsin mental health billers group that we’ve participated in for about ten years. The value it has contributed inspired Jolien to want to create more localized support groups for billers across the United States.

In the past few years, the mental health billing industry has shifted, allowing more and more providers to do much of their own billing.  Some therapists would prefer to be able to ask a biller for help only once in a while, instead of contracting for daily services.  Thus was born Ask a Biller.
